Hillhurst House
The Hillhurst House is a post war storey and a half that was bought as an empty shell with a lot of potential. Original hardwood floors as well as new slate tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom, thick mouldings and baseboards with original wood doors all add to the charm of this thousand square foot space.
The Living Room
The living room is a comfortable, relaxing space. With a combination for new and refurbished furnature, this space lends itself well to conversation, reading and relaxing, playing games, or just cuddling on the couch with the Dog. The room is tastefully lit with indirect lighting and adorned with custom art work on the walls.
The sofa and ottoman were custom built pieces for the room, designed and built by Style Guy. The custom designed drapery treatments are a combination of sheers with solid baby blue pannels dividing the windows. The light baby blue in the room is offset and grounded with the chocolate feature wall in the SE corner of the room.
The Dining Room
This small space proved to be a bit of a challenge. A square table was chosen to save space and gallery style lighting was put in to keep this asian inspired room contemporary. Wood framed rice paper screens were custom built to adorn the north wall. These floor to ceiling panels creating the feeling of height for this small room, and also beautifully frame the antique chinese artifact, a long hand painted banner. The floor to ceiling, wall to wall custom draperied made of a broquade chinese silk are not only stunning, but create the feeling of height and depth.
A small Zen inspired garden was built on the south wall of this room, bringing in beautiful green plants and bamboo, as well as the tranquil sound of the small stone fountain. All the elements are combined in the room to provide balance and a relaxed mood for dining and entertaining.
The Kitchen
The kitchen in the Hillhurst House had been previously renovated but there was still esthetic work to be done.
A couple banks of cupboards were removed and slate tile was installed above the stove. A faux finish was applied to the walls to bring in texture and depth. The lighting was replaces with a wire track lighting system providing mood and directoinal lighting over work surfaces. A shelf for canisters and an exposed plate rack was installed to allow for more room in the cupboards but also for a more contemporary feel in the kitchen.
A small fold away table, perfect for one or two was installed. Kitchen Aid© red accessories and a custom drapery panel bring a shot of color and life into this romantic space.
